On March 19, 2013, Asset Management One Co., Ltd and its overseas offices (collectively, "the company") became a signatory to the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investment Initiative (UNPRI).
UNPRI was launched in 2006 by then-United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. The six Principles, listed below, form a framework to integrate environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues into investment decisions.
By signing onto UNPRI, the company seeks to act in the best long-term interests of our clients and investors.
By becoming a signatory to the UNPRI, the company is committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities as an institutional investor, as well as its fiduciary responsibilities.
【The Six Principles】
We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes
We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices
We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest
We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry
We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles
We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles
On October 2, 2015, Asset Management One Co., Ltd and its overseas offices (collectively, "the company") became a signatory to the Montreal Carbon Pledge.
The Montreal Carbon Pledge was launched in September 2014 at PRI in Person in Montreal. By signing the Montreal Carbon Pledge, investors commit to measuring and publicly disclosing the carbon footprint of their investment portfolios on an annual basis.
The total amount of greenhouse gas discharge was about 7,587 ton.
Based on the data from our investee companies in December 2014, we calculated the discharge amount per our outstanding capital stock, and multiplied this amount by our total Japan ESG funds (as of Oct, 2015).
We will continue to disclose greenhouse gas discharge amount regularly.
